Announcing 2nd Generation Bullet Cameras to Power Better Image Quality and LPR Performance

Today, we are announcing the 2nd generation of bullet cameras, with better image quality, improved analytics, and an easier installation experience. Additionally, the new bullet cameras power a drastically improved License Plate Recognition (LPR) experience that can work at higher speeds and deliver a higher level of accuracy. The new Bullet series will include two wide-angle models (CB52-E and CB62-E) and two telephoto models (CB52-TE and CB62-TE). All 2nd generation bullet cameras will include a new system on a chip (SOC) with a dedicated computer vision co-processor.

Upgraded License Plate Recognition Experience 

One unique aspect of our next generation bullet cameras is the improved LPR algorithm which offers drastically more accurate character detection. The Ambarella CV22 and CV25 chipsets in the CB52-TE and CB62-TE bullet cameras increase the speed and accuracy of processing needed to power the upgraded license plate algorithm at the edge. 

Our bullet cameras are now able to capture license plates for vehicles traveling at speeds up to 80mph / 128kph, a significant improvement from the 25 mph / 40kph capability of our previous generation. For the first time, we are also able to support LPR coverage across up to three lanes, simplifying installations for our customers and expanding the results that can be gathered by a single camera.

We have also significantly improved the investigation capabilities for current and previous generation bullet cameras in LPR mode. These improvements include the ability to review historical footage, conduct motion searches, and create archives. Navigation has also been streamlined, with the option to easily switch between LPR and context camera views while reviewing events. Thanks to these software updates, installing a separate context camera is now fully optional.

All our cameras record in adaptive quality, capturing both standard and high quality streams. Standard quality (SQ) video and LPR results are captured 24/7 and stored up to the amount of retention specified by the customer. Better Image Quality and Analytics Performance

The upgraded system on chip (SOC) in the 2nd generation of bullet cameras enhances the image signal processing (ISP) pipeline, resulting in sharper images and better contrast. The new and improved IR LEDs provide additional illumination for superior low-light performance. These refreshed bullet cameras are available in 5MP and 4K sensor resolutions and have up to 3x optical zoom for short and long-range visibility. The new SOC supports all the latest analytics capabilities, including Occupancy Trends, providing additional insights to customers and supporting a wider range of applications.

Design Changes and Accessories for Easier Installation

Our 2nd generation bullet cameras have a hermetically sealed casing that protects their internal components from the environment. The ethernet cable can be easily inserted without removing the outer body, thanks to the new pigtail connector. We are also introducing a junction box specifically designed for our bullet cameras. Together, the pigtail connector and junction box make the installation process simpler than ever.
