At Verkada, we're building our access control solutions to protect the modern commercial building. Today, we're excited to bring employee badges in Apple Wallet to our customers, making it even more convenient for building administrators to securely manage access for corporate spaces. This integration will enable an organization’s employees or tenants to access locations with a simple tap of their iPhone or Apple Watch.
Employees can add their employee badge to Apple Wallet through the Verkada Pass app. Once added, the badge will give them access to enter their office building, office space, and shared amenity spaces.
Leverage a secure, short-range communication protocol
Apple Wallet uses NFC, a short-range communication standard that allows for a stable and secure connection. NFC scans over a very short range (from a touch to 10cm), which enables organizations to improve security by requiring explicit user intent (placing their phone close to a reader) to unlock a door.
Introducing Express Mode
With Express Mode, employees don’t need to unlock their devices to use their badge in Apple Wallet. If an iPhone needs to be charged, employees can still use their device to access their office or amenity areas for up to five hours with Power Reserve.
Organizations that require additional security across their sites can choose to toggle Express Mode off for specific readers, thus leveraging the authentication on the Apple device along with the Apple Wallet badge for a multi-factor authentication to access the door.
Leverage Apple's powerful privacy and security features
Employee badges in Apple Wallet are stored on personal devices and take full advantage of the privacy and security features built into iPhone and Apple Watch. When an employee uses a badge in Apple Wallet, it is never shared with Apple or stored on Apple servers. If their iPhone or Apple Wallet is misplaced, the owner of the device can promptly use the Find My app to lock the device and help locate it.
