Announcing the AC12 One-Door Controller: Complete Door Security From a Single PoE Cable

Since the launch of our first access control product three years ago, Verkada has transformed access control with an approach centered around ease of use and enterprise scalability. Our systems now process over 2.5 million door unlocks every day across 7,000 organizations. Today we are excited to expand our offering even further with the introduction of the AC12, a compact, easy to deploy one-door controller.  

The AC12 plays an important role in the Verkada access controller portfolio. Powered by a single PoE cable and small enough to fit directly above or beside an entryway, the AC12 makes it easy to bring Verkada access control to standalone doors. With the introduction of the AC12,  we now offer an access controller for nearly every door and scenario. 

Comprehensive capabilities for robust door safety 

Compact and capable, the AC12 can meet the needs of nearly any standalone door installation. It can drive standard power to any 12V or 24V electronic lock and supports native in/out badging with any combination of Verkada and third-party readers. The controller also features accessory ports to support door position indicators and request-to-exit (REX) devices, as well as auxiliary ports for additional configurable inputs and outputs.

The AC12 can be deployed directly at the door, avoiding costly low voltage cable runs from distant IDF closets and allowing organizations to better leverage PoE cabling for power and connectivity. Like our other access control products, the AC12 will continue to function even if it loses its internet connection.

Compact design for efficient installation

The AC12 was thoughtfully architected to support close-proximity installations where building alterations or extensive low-voltage cable runs are not feasible. The device's sleek design makes it a good option for highly visible installations around the door, while its compact form factor facilitates installation in even the tightest spaces. It’s also plenum rated, allowing safe deployment in areas used for air circulation, such as drop ceilings.

The AC12 is great for retail or office locations that don’t have existing networking infrastructure as well as isolated entry points that would otherwise require long low voltage cable runs to electronically access control.

Complete door security with PoE passthrough

The AC12 includes a new Verkada feature: PoE passthrough.

POE passthrough is useful for scenarios where cloud-managed access control is just one of the methods an organization wishes to use to protect an entryway. With PoE passthrough, the AC12 can take a PoE++ input and provide PoE+ output to connect and power any additional device.

Common applications of PoE passthrough include deploying a Verkada dome or mini camera to get visual context on all door events and activity; deploying a CB52 or CB62 bullet camera for native LPR unlock capabilities; arming access controlled doors and sites with a BC82 alarm console; and deploying a BZ11 talkdown speaker to deter threats at the door. PoE passthrough provides more complete door security from a single PoE cable run, making it easier than ever to deploy an integrated door security solution.

Simplified management with Verkada Command 

Since launching Verkada access control, we’ve built software features that make it easier for IT and security teams to enhance entryway security – including the ability to set up and maintain access levels, set door schedules, import user credentials, as well as a range of newer features. With the AC12, organizations can now more easily bring the capabilities and simplicity of Verkada access control to standalone doors as well.
