Today, organizations from universities to senior care facilities to apartment complexes utilize wireless locks to secure large numbers of low- and medium-traffic interior doors. These locks are significantly simpler and less expensive to install than wired solutions due to the ability to save on costly wire runs, the hardware cost of controllers and hubs, and long labor hours for installation.
When wireless locks are combined with Command's management tools, customers can easily and cost-effectively manage large-scale access control deployments spanning hundreds or thousands of doors. We already integrate with dozens of lock types through our ASSA ABLOY and Schlage integrations, and today, we are excited to announce new integrations and Command features that expand our wireless lock capabilities even further. Let’s take a look.
ASSA ABLOY WiFi and PoE lock integrations
We are pleased to strengthen our partnership with ASSA ABLOY by integrating with their WiFi and PoE locks. Often used to replace lock and key systems, these locks are popular in higher education deployments where institutions may secure hundreds or thousands of interior doors across classrooms, dormitories, and offices.
When combined with Command, ASSA ABLOY WiFi and PoE locks are a powerful solution for large organizations with complex access control requirements. With Verkada Command, organizations can automatically onboard and offboard users with SCIM or API integrations into existing systems, such as student information systems or one-card providers. Unlike lock and key systems, which can require that organizations re-key their doors, Command allows admins to revoke access permissions in one click from anywhere. If a user loses a badge or fob, there is no need to re-key the door. An admin can simply de-provision the lost credential and issue a new one.
At the same time, enterprise-grade management tools like access schedules, reports, alerts, and events provide these institutions with the tools they need to manage campus operations and conduct day-to-day safety investigations.
ASSA ABLOY WiFi locks include the Corbin Russwin and Sargent IN120 Aperio locks. These locks connect directly to a building’s wifi network, making installations affordable, simple, and scalable. Locks check in with Verkada Command once daily to preserve battery life, but updates can be pushed to locks at any time.
ASSA ABLOY PoE locks include the Corbin Russwin and Sargent IN220 Aperio series locks. These locks offer an energy-efficient and streamlined architecture via direct PoE connection and allow facilities to leverage existing network infrastructure for enhanced security and easier, more cost-effective installations. PoE locks can connect directly to Command through the local network - no Verkada controller or Aperio Hub is needed.
From Command, admins can manage all user permissions, door schedules, updates, and ongoing investigations using the same toolset as hardwired doors.
Context cameras for Schlage Control series locks
We’re improving our Schlage Control series integration with support for context cameras on Control series locks. Adding context camera functionality improves our customers’ ability to conduct investigations, review door events, and securely unlock doors remotely by validating the context of a scene through an associated camera.
From Command, admins can pair up to two context cameras to every Control-secured lock. When paired with a context camera, door events include associated camera footage and camera-enabled functionality like tailgate and crowd detection.
Low battery alerts
Wireless lock low-battery alerts allow organizations to monitor the battery status of their wireless locks without needing to check Command. These alerts allow users to receive notifications automatically when it is time to change the lock’s battery. Alerts can be sent to Command users via email or SMS.
Availability
The Command functionality to support ASSA ABLOY PoE and WiFi locks is now live for all Command organizations. All other updates will be available on May 23, 2024. ASSA ABLOY and Schlage locks are available through approved lock distributors, such as Access Hardware and Seclock. Stream our latest What’s New Webinar or contact [email protected] to learn more.
