We launched our first video intercom in 2023, and it quickly became one of Verkada’s most popular products. Customers love the ease of installation, intuitive cloud management, and added layer of video security at their doorstep. Today, over 4,000 customers use Verkada intercoms, with over 100,000 calls placed daily. Verkada intercoms help organizations enhance communication, make informed and efficient entry decisions, and improve security and incident response.
We’re excited to support a wider range of installation options and integrate the access experience with our next generation of video intercoms. With the introduction of our TD33, TD53, and TD63 video intercoms, we’ve added options for models with a built-in access reader, reader and keypad, and mullion form factor.
New Models
Our new suite of video intercoms include three different models:
the TD33, our most compact form factor;
the TD53, which improves upon our TD52 model and features a thinner profile, more inputs/outputs, and microphones;
and the TD63, which includes a built-in keypad.
Many customers requested a more compact model to simplify installs at entrances with glass doors and windows. That’s why we built the TD33 to be immediately mountable on door mullions.
Similarly, the thinner profiles on our other models make them easier to install. The TD53 and TD63 are both mountable on a double-gang junction box. Additionally, with the TD63’s built-in keypad, organizations can grant access and trigger multi-factor authentication using PIN codes.
Seamless Access Experience
Customers love that Verkada’s intercoms combine the functionality of a video intercom with two-way audio, a video security camera, and a door controller. Today, we’re pleased to announce that the TD33, TD53, and TD63 intercoms now additionally feature a built-in access reader. The reader is compatible with various credential types, including low-frequency and high-frequency cards and fobs, and mobile apps powered by Bluetooth Low Energy and NFC. Organizations can even enable Intent Unlock, where a simple hand wave can unlock a door as long as employees have their bluetooth-enabled device nearby.
Clearer Audio and Video
Our latest models include significant enhancements to audio quality. We’ve improved our microphone design and increased the number of microphones per intercom from two to four for the TD53 and TD63 models. Coupled with advanced digital audio processing, the result is better noise suppression and echo cancellation for the audio captured by our intercoms. We have also updated our media pipeline – namely, the way in which audio and video is transmitted from our intercoms to receivers. The result is that calls received by Verkada applications like Verkada Pass and Desk Station can be heard at higher quality with minimal losses from compression.
Customers like Trinity Broadcasting Network who beta tested our latest models have remarked on the notable improvement in audio quality:
“After installing the [Verkada TD63] at our Alliance Ft. Worth location, we immediately noticed a marked improvement not only in audio volume, but in audio quality as well. The specific location of the intercom is our loading dock, and it is directly adjacent to the building’s HVAC chiller. It sounds like an airplane taking off and landing all day long which was a challenge with the previous [non-Verkada] intercom solutions we’ve tried.
The shipping/receiving, security, and mailroom staff have all noticed the difference and mentioned it specifically. It has been a major improvement and why we’re excited about how Verkada continues to lead the way with fresh and new enhancements across all of their product lines”.
-- Antonio Montez , Director of Technology, Trinity Broadcasting Network
These improvements also include enhanced video quality: receivers answering a call can see the intercom video stream almost instantaneously, representing a 5x improvement in video playback time. Now receivers can see streaming video as soon as they pick up most calls. The resulting camera feed continues to have stunning video quality regardless of lighting condition, thanks to a 5MP camera, wide dynamic range, and IR LEDs. Additionally, we recognize how valuable entryway video footage can be to organizations, so we’ve doubled on-device storage in our latest models to 512GB to support more high quality (HQ) video retention.
New Features for Durability and Ease-of-Use
Our video intercoms are designed to withstand harsh environments: the TD33 intercom is IP65/IK07 rated, and the TD53 and TD63 intercoms are IP66/IK08 rated. The TD53 and TD63 intercoms additionally feature a removable lens cap, making it easy to replace the camera lens cover if it is ever damaged. This feature is excellent for installations prone to vandalism or excessive wear and tear, eliminating the need to replace the entire intercom.
