At Verkada, our mission is to build products that protect people and property in a way that respects individuals' privacy. Today, we’re excited to announce Live Viewers, our latest privacy feature.
Live Viewers gives Command users deeper visibility into who is watching a camera’s live stream, and provides organizations and site admins new, expanded controls to manage access to video feeds.
See who is watching a live camera stream from the Cameras Page
The Live Viewers feature shows if any of the following groups of users are streaming live footage: Command users, shared and embedded links users, and Viewing Station users. Each viewer is displayed at the top right hand side corner of the Camera page as a circular icon. Clicking on an icon displays the Live Viewer card. The card also presents additional information (viewer’s name, email address, IP address, and length of the stream session) and controls that allows organizations and site admins to manage access to the live stream – and therefore help respect the privacy of individuals viewed by the camera. For Viewing Station users, the card also includes the serial number of the device. The details can be copied right from the card with one click.
Site admins, site viewers, and live-only viewers have access to the Live Viewers cards. Site admins also have access to advanced privacy controls: force log-out users, quick access to the Command’s user profile, disable and manage Live Links, manage a Viewing Station video access.
If the number of viewer icons is too large to fit on the screen, the icons are collapsed into a single overflow icon. The count of additional viewers is displayed on the overflow icon. Clicking on the overflow icon brings up a list with details of each of the viewers.
