For many incidents and investigations, audio plays an important role in gathering evidence and insight into what occurred. Historically, Verkada customers have been able to access recorded audio synced with their historical footage. Today, we’re making it possible for teams to monitor audio as incidents occur in real-time with the addition of live audio support.
Live audio adds a new level of visibility and awareness of events occurring across your organization, including incident response and improved operational efficiency.
In addition to improving security and building management, live audio also enables organizations to leverage their Verkada cameras for broadcasting events. This can include anything from ceremonies, religious gatherings and even teachers giving lessons without having to add additional video hardware.
How it Works
To get started, go to your camera’s settings and select Device. From there, you will need to toggle on audio, which will enable both live and historical audio for that specific camera. If you already have historical audio on your camera, there is no further action required as live audio will be enabled automatically.
To access live audio of a camera, simply navigate to the designated camera page. From there, you will see an audio icon on the camera’s toolbar. At default, live audio is muted but can be turned on by clicking on the icon, as well as adjusted by moving the volume toggle up or down.
Additionally, when viewing footage with live audio over a local network connection, there will be no significant impact on bandwidth as the audio, like the footage, will stream locally. This provides significant value to organizations that need to monitor live footage and audio continuously while onsite.
Live audio is available today for Verkada customers with Dome Series, CM41, D30 and D40 cameras.
