One of Verkada’s primary goals is to simplify and improve the management of enterprise video surveillance systems. With that goal in mind, today we’ve launched a new, simplified streaming architecture for all Verkada customers. With this update, we have improved image performance, reduced latency, and streamlined our user experience. Users now choose between HD and SD quality, while the platform intelligently chooses the best streaming option, defaulting to the Local Area Network (LAN) whenever possible.
What’s Changing
Streaming Options Users now have the choice between HD and SD streaming options in Command, down from the previous four options (HD, SD, Live Low Latency and Local).
Local Streaming Command will default to Local streaming. SD will be delivered over the LAN whenever possible to limit bandwidth in both individual camera views and grids.
New Icons When footage is streaming over the web, it is represented as a green circle. Whenever the LAN is available, the footage will stream locally and is identified by a white outer circle.
Latency The improvements cut latency to 1-2 seconds for SD streams whether streamed locally or over the WAN.
Image Quality Video quality is increased significantly, especially in situations with high amounts of motion.
If you’re a current Verkada customer, our updated streams are now available in your Command software. Follow the instructions in our Knowledge Base to manage your video quality settings.
