Introducing the AD34 Door Reader: Magically Simple, Effortlessly Secure
Today we are announcing our next-generation door reader: the AD34. In addition to improvements in credential scan performance, form factor, and LED feedback, the AD34 builds on the Bluetooth capabilities of our previous door readers. In particular, the AD34 utilizes an innovative time-of-flight object distance sensor to deliver a Bluetooth unlock experience that is both more secure and convenient.
Wide-ranging credential support and improved scan range
Like our previous AD33 reader, the AD34 supports both low-frequency proximity cards and high-frequency credentials. This includes ultra-secure, encrypted NFC credentials like Verkada DESFire EV3 cards and employee badges in Apple Wallet.
With improved scan performance across the board, the AD34 can read low-frequency and high-frequency credentials at up to 30% greater distance than our previous generation of door readers, and has a significantly larger scanning sweet spot.
Secure yet convenient Bluetooth Intent Unlock
The AD34 introduces a powerful new Bluetooth unlock experience: Intent Unlock. Less advanced Bluetooth readers rely only on the proximity of a phone in order to unlock a door, which can cause unintentional unlocks when a user walks by the secure side of the door. With Intent Unlock, organizations can prevent unintentional unlocks by requiring both proximity-based Bluetooth authentication and precise unlock intent in front of the reader–such as a hand wave–in order to unlock the door.
In addition to improving security, Intent Unlock allows organizations to provide users with a convenient, almost magical way to move through entryways. Individuals can keep their phone in their pocket or bag and simply wave their hand in front of the reader as they approach the door. The entire operation is performed at the edge, allowing the reader to provide an instantaneous unlock experience whether it has access to the internet or not.
Intent Unlock is powered by a cutting edge time-of-flight sensor on the AD34, which accurately measures the distance between the reader and objects up to 2 meters away.
Intent Unlock can be configured to meet your needs. Admins can choose from several preset unlock triggers to provide the right level of security and convenience for each entryway. For instance, one preset allows a door to unlock as a user walks up to it—no hand wave required—while another is designed for a garage setting. Beyond the four presets, admins can fully customize the requirements for Bluetooth proximity and object distance in order to achieve the unlock experience that is most suitable for the needs of a given door.
Easy to install and manage
The AD34 has a sleek, modern design and includes both single gang and mullion mounting plates in the box. The reader is IP65 and IK08 rated, making it suitable for outdoor deployments and harsh environments.
Once the reader is installed, users have the ability to see reader connection quality in Verkada Command. This feature helps installers and customers ensure they have a high quality wiring connection, quickly surface issues like wire tampering or degraded wire quality, and generally make it easier to troubleshoot and fix problems.
Availability
The AD34 will be available starting August 15 with an MSRP of $349. For more information, please see the product datasheet and webpage. To get a personalized demo or free trial, contact your Verkada sales representative or email [email protected].
