As our customers grow, they are increasingly looking to integrate Verkada data with other systems. Using the Verkada API, customers can easily pull relevant data from Verkada and bring it into other applications to improve user experience, simplify workflows, and automate routine tasks.
Build applications on new Verkada API endpoints
To support our customers evolving needs, we continue to make new API endpoints available. Today, we’re announcing two new endpoints - Occupancy Trends and Object positioning metadata, which will become available on 8/29. Using the Occupancy Trends endpoint, Verkada customers can power a range of use cases such as analyzing foot traffic trends across cameras using 3rd party business intelligence tools, or display how busy their stores are at different times on their website. With the Object positioning endpoint, Verkada customers can subscribe to a stream of object positioning data from cameras that have Occupancy Trends enabled, and use that stream to build analytics applications for use cases such as dwell time estimation. For more information about how Occupancy Trends work, see our previous blog post.
Streamline Permission Management of Public APIs
In addition, we’re continuously working to increase the security of our platform, including the Public API. To make it easier for our customers to ensure that each integration is using the correct permission levels, we’re proud to announce our new permissioning system for the Public API. Previously, admins used a single, non-expiring API key to authenticate requests across all applications. While this is simple to set up and use, it becomes hard to manage as the number of integration points grow. The new API permissioning will allow customers to create multiple API keys and webhook endpoints with pre-set expiration dates and differing permission levels.
Getting started
These two new API endpoints will become available as part of our August feature release on 8/29. To start using our Public API, you first need to generate a new API key on our API management page.
Once you have created the key, you can use that to request data from any of the endpoints in our public API. To learn more, visit our API documentation.
