New Pollutant Monitoring and Alerting Features for Verkada Sensors

Today we’re releasing enhanced particulate matter detection capabilities on all SV23, SV25 and legacy SV11 Verkada Sensor devices as well as new alert features to improve the sensor alerting workflow. These features will provide customers with expanded insight and simplified alerting across their deployments. 

Detecting new particulate matter: PM 4 and PM 10  

Customers use Verkada sensors to monitor indoor environments for common, yet harmful, pollutants like TVOCs from cleaning supplies or carbon monoxide from vehicle exhaust. To expand our pollutant monitoring capabilities further, we’re excited to announce new device and software features to allow all SV23, SV25 and SV11 devices to detect PM 4 and PM 10. 

This update will allow Command users to analyze the PM 4 and PM 10 conditions within their facilities, as well as use features like alerting, dashboards and calibration. These updates will be rolled out to all new and existing devices automatically on November 15, 2023. 

Airborne particulate matter (PM) is a mixture of chemical species. Like PM 2.5, PM 4 and PM 10 are measures of particulate matter in the air. PM 4 refers to particulate matter that is 4 microns or less in diameter while PM 10 refers to particulates with a diameter of 10 microns or less. Particulate matter is most commonly derived from emissions sources like gasoline, oil, diesel fuel or wood produce. 

PM 10 captures larger particulates from construction areas, landfills, wildfires and pollen. PM 4 captures fine dust, soot, black carbon and soil erosion particles.

These expanded particulate matter readings give customers greater insight into the types of air pollutants in their environments, allowing them to better differentiate between particulate matter sources and take more appropriate corrective actions in response to readings. 

Push notifications and new unified alert experience 

Today, Verkada sensors send over 40,000 globally alerts per day across our network of devices. To make it even easier for admins to receive and respond to environmental alerts, we are releasing push notification functionality for all sensor events. With push notifications, users can now receive sensor notifications via Command mobile. Push notifications through Command mobile push instantly and provide a directly embedded camera link for one-tap access to the event footage. 

Beyond single user alerts via Command mobile, admins can now subscribe user groups to a notification, allowing for much easier alert recipient management. 

Lastly, to unify the alerting workflow and further simplify alerts, we’ve added sensor alerts to the Command Alerts page. This update makes it easier to manage all alerts from a single page, across devices.
