Today, LinkedIn released its annual Top Startups 2020: The 50 U.S. companies on the rise , which ranks the top 50 emerging and most resilient startups right now. Verkada is honored to be included at #10, alongside startups who have successfully navigated business challenges in the wake of COVID-19, such as Databricks, Front, and Rubrik.
We are incredibly excited about the future as we continue to work tirelessly to deliver on our vision to power the modern, integrated building. Nothing excites us more than hearing from customers that Verkada has enabled them to better protect people, assets, and privacy in their physical spaces. From universities that are able to ensure that maintenance and operations across campuses provide a pristine environment for quality learning, to healthcare providers that need to meet compliance regulations and simplify the process of surveillance monitoring across locations, Verkada has earned the trust of more than 4,200 organizations, including 30 of the Fortune 500.
As we continue to push the limits on what’s possible with enterprise building security, a few employees share what they’re most excited about for Verkada’s future.
“Physical security is one of the few domains that computer vision has the potential to significantly impact. Verkada poses many exciting and challenging computer vision problems, and as an engineer, I am fascinated and energized by the work that's in front of us. We have the ability to change how people, assets, and privacy are protected by leveraging computer vision with frameworks and features such as object detection and search production, and we've only scratched the surface.”
Yunchao Gong, Director of Engineering - Computer Vision
“For decades, the physical security market has been dominated by an on-prem system design that is so complicated to install, maintain, and access that only security experts are able to use it. The cloud has created a huge opportunity for this space, and Verkada’s hybrid-cloud approach has brought enterprises exactly what they need: an intuitive system that can be centrally managed and remotely accessed anywhere, anytime, on any device. Our product and engineering teams are innovating at an incredible rate with new features, functionalities, and products that are built based on customer feedback; and as a sales rep, it’s exhilarating to sell a product that is so game-changing for customers in an industry that is ripe for disruption.”
Lauren Spears, Enterprise Account Executive
“As the leader in cloud-based enterprise building security, Verkada has some unique video streaming challenges. While on-demand video or video conferencing services are able to trade-off latency and quality, our customers need the best of both in order to identify crucial details quickly. I can't wait to tackle the interesting problems this presents around video compression, web technologies, quality assessment, and even artificial intelligence, which are all at the centre of our product as we set out to make physical spaces safer.”
Chris Hiszpanski, Software Engineer - Video Streaming
“Verkada is ahead of its time. When I purchased my first smartphone device in 2009, I could only save about 100 pictures before my memory was depleted. Today, I don't have that problem because most of the data that lives on my smartphone is stored in the cloud, so I never run out of space. The fact that Verkada offers a hybrid-cloud solution in the physical security space while utilizing very little bandwidth is revolutionary in itself. As we continue to design an ecosystem of products that are all interconnected, I truly believe the best is yet to come.”
Kevin Menawonu, Enterprise Account Executive
“As a product design mechanical engineer, I get to be at the forefront of our new technology as we expand into adjacent markets such as access control and environmental sensors. My team researches these new spaces, builds prototypes, and conducts robust testing to make products that are elegant, tough, and the most innovative on the market. There’s nothing more rewarding than creating products that help customers keep their people and assets safe, and I’m excited to continue adding incredible products to the ecosystem that powers modern buildings.”
Karina Gunadi, Product Design Mechanical Engineer
