New Verkada Access Control Features: April 2024

On April 18, two new software features will become available to all access control customers:

  • Users with access: From the door access report and the door page, users can now select the 'users with access' column to display a side panel widget of all users with access to that door.

  • AUX input P2P door unlocks: P2P local device connection now supports door unlocks triggered by AUX Inputs. This feature eliminates the need to broker door unlocks between controllers via the cloud. To simplify the management of this feature, users can also see the cross-device connection status of any P2P connected AUX Inputs from the device page in Command. This new intuitive icon displays the connection status to let users quickly understand if a P2P AUX input unlock is being processed locally or via the cloud.

Access Control Enhanced User Import and Export

We’ve enhanced the CSV  User import and export workflow to make it easier to create many user profiles via CSV upload. From the Users page in Command, admins can now navigate to the ‘Import Users’ tab to launch the create users flow.

With the new flow, users can export a sample CSV template to preview and format their file with the correct headers, encoding, and data formats. Once uploaded, admins can easily see and fix any errors with their upload as well as troubleshoot errors with clear instructions on resolving errors, such as file size too large, attempting to overwrite users, or required header not being found. Once the preview is complete and Command identifies no errors with the file formatting, administrators can submit the upload and receive an email confirmation. The email indicates the number of users successfully imported and those who have yet to be imported due to errors on the file. The email will include a CSV file of the errors with clear instructions on how to resolve the errors.

Global Alert Rule Configuration

Access control alerts now include enhanced multi-select filters to make it even easier to configure the exact alert needed to capture a particular event. Additionally, a new user filter allows admins to apply relevant access control alert filters to specific users, for example, all access denied events for a particular user. Double Badge to Change a Door Schedule

Double badging toggles a door's schedule from unlocked to access controlled, and vice versa, when the same credential is read twice in a row through two subsequent taps. Double badge is available to both users and access groups. Double badge-initiated state changes create Command events. Double badging for a single door works regardless of internet connectivity. Anti-passback Badge Policy

Admins can now configure areas with multiple entrances and exits and turn on anti-passback badge policy for any area. Users attempting to badge into an area twice in a row without badging out at an exit door—or vice versa—will be in violation. To learn more, read the full announcement.

Cross-Device Connections

Cross-device connections allow Verkada controllers to activate and deactivate auxiliary devices based on inputs from other access controllers in the same Command organization. Cross-device outputs communicate and operate via cloud and local connections. For example, organizations can now respond to any emergency exit door event by turning on emergency exit lights across the building. To learn more, read the full announcement.
