Why enable the security screen feature within Guest?

Some schools and youth organizations require additional visibility over who they allow on-premise as their local laws and safety protocols may mandate that visitors be reviewed against registered sex offender lists in order to be granted access. The security screen feature supports our customers to meet this requirement by electronically checking visitors against registered sex offender lists. This helps organizations to abide by local regulations and to provide additional safety measures to protect students, staff, and personnel.

How does the security screen feature work?

The security screen feature is completely optional. When enabled for a specific Guest Type, it enhances security by reading a visitor’s state issued identification and comparing extracted data against local and state-level US registered sex offender registries that have been aggregated by a third party data provider. When a potential match is identified, an alert is sent to the assigned campus administrators for review, allowing them to take appropriate action. If no match was made, the visitor is given a printed badge that includes a photo.

How is the data used and protected?

The security screen feature only extracts the visitor’s full name and date of birth from the ID for comparison against the registered sex offender lists. For the vast majority of visitors whose information does not match, their scanned name, date of birth, and ID scan are immediately removed from our datastores. Data remains with our 3rd party providers for no more than 24 hours, after which it is expunged from their system. In the event of a match, the matching data (name, date of birth, ID scan) are retained in the Verkada Guest system for up to 90 days, based on settings defined by the customer’s Organization admin during setup.

Like all customer data stored on Verkada’s platform, no data is shared across Organizations on our system. In addition, we do not use any biometrics or image data captured by Guest or any of our products to query the registered sex offender lists.

Why is the photo and address extracted from the driver's licence if it's not sent to the 3rd-party database for matching?

Accepted Answer

The photo and address are extracted from the licence for the receptionist to do a manual comparison of the results coming from the database to the actual driver’s licence in the event of a potential match. The only pieces of information sent to determine a potential match from the database are the full name and date of birth.
